Year End Home Organizational Tips

Christmas season is almost over and 2018 is coming to a close, which means your home – like many others – is likely flooded with Christmas decor and numerous home items in need of storage before the new year.

Organizing your home at the end of the year can be difficult, and it can cause some stress when the proper plan is not in place.

Year-end home organization does not have to be a difficult, testing process. By understanding how to properly organize your home in a manner that allows your home to look great and gives you the ability to keep it organized throughout the new year, you can reap the benefits that a clutter-free home provides.

Make a Checklist

The first step towards a clutter-free home is to get organized and make a checklist of all the things that need to be done. In other words, you may have to get organized before your home gets organized.

Be sure to make a list of everything that needs to be done around the home, which may include cleaning up Christmas decorations, organizing your closet and sorting through all of your new Christmas presents.

After making a checklist, organize each one from each one and tackle every item on the list.

Label and Store

One of the main points of getting organized is to make it easier to find things when you need to, along with decluttering your home. When items and drawers are not labeled properly, finding what you need when you need it can be tough.

Before you begin to place items you do not need away in an effort to organize your home, be sure to place a label on the box, drawer or area of the storage closet in which the item is placed.

It helps to group related items together as well, such as Christmas decorations together in the same area of a closet or storage room.

Donate Unwanted Items

When going through the home organization process, you are likely to come across various items that you simply do not want. Although it is easier – and perhaps more convenient – to simply hoard the unwanted items, doing so can clutter your home.

Instead, consider donating your unwanted items to a charitable cause, thrift store or any other type of donation center. While some items may simply need to be thrown away, there is likely someone out there who would love to have the old sweater you no longer wear or the baby toys your children are now too old to play with.

Stay Organized

Getting your home organized at year’s end is only half the battle. The other half of the battle is actually staying organized as the new year starts.

Make it your new year’s resolution this year to stay organized as much as possible throughout the year. By storing the items properly, labeling each storage area and setting aside an hour or two each week to declutter your home, you should be able to stay organized and keep your home clean and neat in 2019.
