The summer is here, which means finding fun ways for the kids (and adults) to get outside and cool off after a long day is important. One of the best ways to do this is by playing fun pool games. This review offers five fun ideas of pool games you can play with your kids in the pool this summer.
Fun pool games for the summer
There are dozens of great pool games. However, our favorites are Marco Polo, pool volleyball, chicken fighting, floatie races, water balloon fights, and, as a bonus, an underwater treasure hunt. Let’s take a more detailed look at how you can get the most amount of fun out of each game.
Marco Polo
Marco Polo is a fun and simple game that is easy for kids of all ages to learn. Step one is to elect someone to be “it.” They must close their eyes and call out “Marco” (after counting to 10). All other players respond by calling out “Polo.” The person who is designated as “it” must follow the voices and tag a player, who would then become the one to call out “Marco.”

Volleyball
Pool volleyball is a great game to play if you have six or more people in the pool. You will, of course, need a volleyball to use and a net (although an imaginary net could work as well). You can find all you need with this pool volleyball set from Amazon. Traditional sports of all kinds are great in the water, including pool basketball, frisbee, lacrosse, and more.
Shoulder wars
Shoulder wars is a great game if you have older kids or you are only playing with adults. This game involves two teams of two people. One person gets on the shoulders of the other and attempts to make the other team lose their balance and fall. This is a fun game, but establishing rules for fairness and safety is encouraged. This may not work as well for younger children.
Floatie race
A floatie race is a fun game for kids of all ages as well. Simply have each member of the race pick their favorite float and set up a finish line at the other end of the pool. To make the race longer, you could have them race to the other end of the pool and back. If you have kids of all different ages, be sure to give the younger kids a head start!
Water balloon fight
A water balloon fight is always fun, especially when in the pool on a hot day. It can be a little more dangerous than other fun pool games, so setting up a rule of no throws at the head may be helpful.
Bonus: treasure hunt
A bonus game you could try is an underwater treasure hunt. This involves dropping “treasure” to the bottom of a pool, providing everyone with a set of underwater goggles and seeing who can collect the most from the bottom of the pool.
